Crystal Palace take on Norwegian opposition Fredrikstad in UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying - a match that has been preceded by multiple off-field shocks.
First an foremost was Palace's place in this specific European competition. Oliver Glasner's side had, initially, won a spot in the 2025/26 Europa League for being victorious in last season's FA Cup final.
However, this summer they became embroiled in a legal battle - with UEFA - over multi-club ownership rules. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) eventually ruled in the governing body's favour, meaning that the Eagles have been forced into the Europa Conference League instead of the Europa League.

So, Palace now find themselves in the position of having to defeat Fredrikstad over two qualifying legs in order to secure their place in the competition's league phase.
Additionally, the gamed appeared as if it could have been Eberechi Eze's final appearance in blue and red. The 27-year-old has been subject of an extraordinary transfer hijack across London.
Tottenham Hotspur looked set to win with an agreement close to £68m in place. North London rivals Arsenal then emerged to also reach an agreement with Palace, and the player has opted for the Emirates Stadium.
