CBSE Board Exams: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the eligibility rules for appearing in the 10th and 12th board exams. The board has said that it is mandatory for the students to have a minimum of 75% attendance in school to appear for the exam. According to the instructions, the student has to study all the subjects for 2 years to appear in the board exam.
The board also said that internal assessment in all subjects offered by CBSE is a mandatory part as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The board said in an official statement, "The prerequisites for appearing in the board examination conducted by CBSE are: Class 10 and 12 are two-year programs, which include classes 9 and 10 and classes 11 and 12, respectively." The statement further said, "Internal assessment is a two-year process. If students do not come to school, their internal assessment cannot be done. If there is no performance in the internal assessment, the result of the student cannot be declared. Such students, even if they are regular students, will be placed in the 'Essential Repeat' category."
Schools need to obtain permission for additional subjects.
Students will be given the option to choose additional subjects in classes 10 and 12. According to the official statement, "In class 10, students can choose 2 additional subjects apart from the compulsory 5 subjects, while only 1 additional subject can be taken in class 12. Students choosing additional subjects will study them for two years."
The board also clarified that if a school has not taken permission from CBSE to teach a subject and does not have teachers, labs, or other facilities, then that subject will not be given to the students as a main or additional subject.
The board said, "If a regular student has taken additional subjects in earlier years and is placed in the 'Compartment' or 'Essential Repeat' category, he/she can appear in the examination as a private candidate in the Compartment or Essential Repeat category." The board clarified that no student who does not fulfill the above criteria will be allowed to appear in the board examination. The statement also stated that there are two national school boards under the Ministry of Education. CBSE provides face-to-face education, while NIOS provides education through open and distance learning.
