UPI Circle: Your child can also make UPI payments, understand how UPI Circle works?

Send Push

Now, from buying everyday things to sending any payment, UPI Payment is being used everywhere. In such a situation, this question arises in the mind of many parents: Can my child make a payment through UPI? The answer is yes. It depends on the age of the child and the bank account status whether your child can make a payment on their own or not. If you want, you can also use the UPI Circle feature for the child. How does this feature work for children, and how can it be set up? Today, we are going to answer all these important questions.

What is UPI Circle?

This is a payment facility that is currently available only on apps like Google Pay and BHIM. In this feature, the primary user (parents) can link their bank account with the secondary user (child) so that the child can make payments easily. The control of payment remains in the hands of the parents because, while setting up the account, parents are given two options to make payments.

Once the UPI Circle is set up, your child can easily make payments by scanning the QR code and sending money through their UPI ID. This will be done without accessing your bank account or UPI PIN, so you will have full control. You can choose a daily or monthly limit or approval for every transaction. The UPI Circle feature is for children below 15 years of age or those who do not have a bank account.

According to the Indian Express report, if your child is 15 years or older and has a bank account in his/her name, then he/she can register for a UPI ID. Many banks allow minors up to the age of 10 to open a bank account, but in this case, documents like a PAN card of the parents are required. After the UPI ID is activated, you can use UPI Circle by following the steps given below.

How to set up UPI Circle

Open Google Pay or the BHIM app and then click on your profile picture. After this, as soon as you scroll down a bit, you will see the UPI Circle option. After clicking on UPI Circle, in the next step, you will see two options: first, Add People to Your UPI Circle, and second, Join UPI Circle. If you want to add your child, then tap on the Add option.

In the next step, open the payment app (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm) on your child's phone and scan the QR code appearing in your child's account. Example: If you have created a Google Pay account on your child's phone too, then you have to click on the Join option mentioned above. As soon as you tap on this option, the QR code will start appearing on the screen. Scan the QR code appearing on the screen of the child's phone from your phone.

After scanning the QR code, select the Add to My UPI Circle option. After this, you will get two options: first, Spend with Limits (transactions within the prescribed limit), and second, Approve Every Payment (your approval for every transaction). You have to choose one option. After choosing this option, you will have to enter the UPI PIN to add the secondary user i.e. your child.
