Chepauk no longer a fortress! SRH defeat CSK by 5 wickets

Send Push

The MA Chidambaram Stadium, once the pride and fortress of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has been breached multiple times during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. First, it was Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), then Delhi Capitals (DC), followed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and now, finally, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). In the Southern Derby clash, after Hyderabad's win, owner Kavya Maran was seen all smiles, visibly relieved after her team's recent poor performances.

SRH secured a crucial 5-wicket win in this do-or-die clash, breaking their long-standing jinx at Chepauk—they had never won at the venue until now. This marks CSK's fourth consecutive defeat at home, only the second such occurrence in their IPL history. The first was when they lost the last two home games in 2008 and the first two in 2010 (one of which ended in a Super Over).

Playoffs in danger for CSK

With this victory, SRH keep their hopes alive, while CSK's chances hang by a thread. Although Chennai Super Kings are not officially or mathematically out yet, their path to the playoffs now depends on a series of near-impossible miracles. Their fourth consecutive defeat at Chepauk underscores the dire state the team is in.

Fans react

Soon after the clash, many took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express disappointment in Chennai fortress being breached. There were also a few who trolled MS Dhoni as well.

One said, "RCB won their first match in Chennai after 17 years. Delhi Capitals won their first match in Chennai after 15 years. SRH won their first ever match in Chennai vs CSK in history. The Chennai fortress is broken!"

Another said, "Match winners need to step up for #SRH to get to playoffs...Dominating performances so far- Ishan Kishan vs RR...Abhishek Sharma vs KXIP...Harshal Patel vs CSK. Mohammed Shami, NKR, Klaasen, Abhinav yet to explode with a match winning performance".

One even wrote, "The man who build his fortress with sweat and blood.... now those all are crashing in one season".

Another added, "TOOTA HAI CHEPAUK KA GHAMAND".
