Jaisalmer police on Tuesday arrested Mahendra Prasad, a contractual manager at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Guest House near Chandan Field Firing Range, on charges of spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, reported ANI. Rajasthan’s CID Intelligence alleged that Prasad shared confidential and strategic information with handlers across the border.
According to ANI, officials said Prasad will be produced in court on Wednesday, where investigators will seek his remand for further questioning.
Inspector General of Police, CID (Security) Rajasthan, Dr. Vishnukant, said the agency had intensified surveillance ahead of the state-level Independence Day events to track possible anti-national and subversive activities. During monitoring, authorities learned that Prasad, a resident of Palyun in Almora district, Uttarakhand, had been in contact with Pakistani intelligence operatives through social media. He was allegedly providing details about the movement of DRDO scientists and Indian Army officers visiting the firing range for missile and weapons testing.
CID officials said Prasad was questioned at the Central Interrogation Centre in Jaipur by multiple intelligence agencies. A technical examination of his mobile phone reportedly confirmed the transmission of sensitive information related to DRDO and the Army to Pakistan-based handlers.
A case was registered against Prasad, 32, under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, on August 12. He was taken into custody the same day by the CID Intelligence unit in Rajasthan.
