A deadly feud has erupted within the Ippa gang in Central Nagpur following the death of a gangster's wife, who was involved in a secret relationship with another gang member, Arshad Topi. The 29-year-old woman died after a road accident on Thursday, triggering a manhunt by at least 40 armed associates seeking to kill Topi, whom they accuse of betrayal and possible murder.
Accident sparks violent fallout
According to senior police officials, the fatal incident occurred when Arshad Topi and the woman were riding a two-wheeler near Suradevi temple, behind the Koradi Mata temple. The motorcycle was hit by a JCB machine in a remote area, critically injuring the woman, who was riding pillion. Topi escaped with minor injuries. As reported by TOI
A patrol team from the Koradi Thermal Power Plant transported the injured woman to a nearby private hospital, where she was denied admission. A second hospital in Kamptee also refused to treat her. Eventually, Topi paid an ambulance driver to take her to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Nagpur, where she succumbed to her injuries on Friday morning.
Police on alert as gang targets Topi
CCTV footage from a private hospital confirmed Topi’s presence with the injured woman. Following her death, tensions flared within the Ippa gang. Members accused Topi of defying direct orders to end the relationship and now suspect foul play. Several gang members have allegedly spread out across the city and Kamptee in search of Topi, seeking to avenge the perceived betrayal.
Fearing for his life, Topi approached Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Niketan Kadam in Pardi on Friday. “The mafia king opened the hotline with other city gangs for inputs and backup to exact revenge on his former aide. An underworld informer tipped off cops and police stations across the city were activated,” a police officer said.
Topi was later directed to Koradi police station, where his statement was recorded. DCP Kadam confirmed the visit, stating, “Arshad sought protection, but was reluctant to register a formal case.”
Police intervention to de-escalate tension
To prevent further violence, DCP Kadam coordinated with Zonal DCP Rahul Madane, who oversees the Ippa gang’s turf, to issue warnings to gang members against taking retaliatory action. Kadam clarified that the preliminary investigation indicates the incident was a genuine accident, with no evidence of intentional harm.
Although Topi left the Koradi police station late on Friday, believing the immediate threat had eased, city police remain on high alert. The crime branch and multiple police stations, including Koradi and Tehsil, are monitoring the situation closely to maintain order and ensure Topi’s safety.
