Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Two more Covid-19 cases were reported in Indore on Monday, taking the total number of cases in the district to four in the past three days. The rise in the cases has prompted local officials to intensify monitoring and ensure preparedness for any further spread.
The latest cases include a 72-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man. The elderly woman had recently returned from Goa and tested positive for the virus, while the younger man also had recent travel history. Both patients are exhibiting mild symptoms and are currently in home isolation under medical supervision.
Dr. Bhure Singh Setia, Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) of Indore, confirmed the news, saying that both individuals were stable and their conditions were being closely monitored. "We are tracing individuals who may have come into contact with the new patients. They will be tested for Covid-19 if necessary," Dr. Setia told reporters.
Since January 2025, a total of 11 Covid cases have been reported in Indore. One of these patients succumbed to the disease, which highlights the potential severity of the virus, especially among older adults.
In addition to the two new cases, health officials are conducting extensive contact tracing for individuals who may have interacted with a 33-year-old resident of Indore who tested positive on May 23 after traveling to Kerala. Authorities have identified 22 contacts linked to this case, and one contact is awaiting test results.
While Indore has seen a rise in cases, other parts of Madhya Pradesh are also reporting positive cases. On May 24, a seven-year-old girl from Surat and a 47-year-old woman from Ujjain tested positive. These cases were detected through private labs and while neither individual was from Indore, their presence in the city added to the region's vigilance.
Health system preparedness
In response to the growing cases, the Madhya Pradesh State Health Department has asked Indore’s authorities to submit detailed reports on the city’s Covid -19 preparedness. Indore currently has 10,000 hospital beds, including 2,000 oxygen and ICU beds. With 42 operational oxygen plants, the city is equipped to handle a surge in cases.
Public advisory
Health officials are urging citizens to continue following Covid -appropriate behaviour, such as wearing masks, maintaining social distance and seeking testing if symptoms develop.
