Ahmedabad: Despite Gujarat's prohibition law, incidents of alcohol smuggling and consumption continue to surface often. However, a recent case uncovered by the Local Crime Branch (LCB) team of Ahmedabad (Rural) police stood out for the unusually clever method used to hide liquor bottles.
The smugglers had concealed liquor bottles worth ₹2.75 lakh in secret compartments built into the walls and beneath an Indian toilet commode to evade police detection.
According to The Times of India, the raid was conducted in Bareja village of Ahmedabad, where the police recovered 792 sealed liquor bottles and beer cans worth ₹2.76 lakh.
The alcohol was hidden in two houses in the village. Acting on a tip-off, the LCB team quickly planned the raid. Officers and staff from the team reached Bareja and began their search.
During the operation, when police inspected the toilets at the front of one house, they discovered that liquor bottles were hidden under a toilet seat. An LCB officer stated that the seat appeared unusually loose, raising the team’s suspicion. Upon lifting and examining it, they found bottles stored underneath.

The police have sent 20 of these bottles for forensic examination to ascertain their quality and source.
Earlier last month, a high-profile Liquor birthday party was reportedly busted at Glade One Golf Club and Resort in Sanand. Around 70–80 guests were present on the location at the time of the raid.
