IIT Madras Zanzibar has introduced a new academic for 2025–26 period a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemical Process Engineering. The full-time, four-year undergraduate program will be held at the campus in Zanzibar and is available for application to students from all countries, including India.
The curriculum is well-developed to integrate fundamental chemical engineering education with exposure. Students shall not only learn basic theories but also get practical lab sessions, interact with cross-disciplinary electives, and work together on real-world projects that reflect existing industry demands.
Instruction will be by faculty from IIT Madras, IITM Zanzibar, as well as the world partner institutions to ensure the quality of instruction is at international academic standards and the IIT brand.
One of the strengths of this program is its emphasis on growing fields like energy, data science, and sustainability. On top of that, students will complete a capstone project designed in collaboration with regional industries, with the opportunity to implement their learning in real-world contexts.
Applicants wishing to apply should have passed secondary school with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects. Accepted qualifications are Indian Class 12, Form VI, GCE Advanced Level, IB Diploma, or Cambridge AS & A Level.

Eligible candidates will be called to give a screening test on July 13th, which will be conducted at Chennai, Zanzibar, and other mentioned places. Shortlisted candidates will then be interviewed online between the 25th and 31st of July. The academic year will commence on the 6th of October 2025.
At the moment, IITM Zanzibar also provides a Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, a Master of Technology in the same field, and an M.Tech program in Ocean Structures. These courses, just like the new BS in Chemical Process Engineering, are designed to provide an internationally relevant education.
