Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Several BJP ministers in the state have resigned from the cabinet in the past 20 years. The demand for the resignation of Tribal Welfare Minister Vijay Shah has intensified.
Shah does not want to quit. The government is also not keen on asking him to put in his papers. He is safe for now. Shah is one of those ministers whose resignations were sought. In 2013, Shah had to resign from the ministry because of his foul language, but he returned to the ministry after a few months.
Former chief minister Uma Bharti resigned after an FIR was registered against her in connection with Tiranga.
After the BJP took over the reins of power in the state, Sunil Nayak was the first minister to have quit the cabinet. The then chief minister Babulal Gaur removed him from the ministry. He was a supporter of former chief minister Uma Bharti. Gaur removed Nayak for his statements.
The then chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan sought the resignation from a minister of his cabinet, Jugal Kishore Bagri, after Lokayukta registered a case against him. During the tenure of Chouhan as chief minister, several ministers had to quit.
The then minister Ajay Vishnoi resigned in 2008 after I-T sleuths carried out raids on the residential premises of his kin. These raids put a question mark on Vishnoi, too. Consequently, Chouhan and the party organisation decided to seek his resignation.
The then minister Anoop Mishra had to resign because the names of his family members cropped up in an incident of shooting in Belagaon in 2010. Nevertheless, Mishra and his family members got a clean chit in the incident. He returned to the cabinet afterwards.
In 2013, when a video of a sex scandal came to light, the then minister Raghavji had to resign. Raghavji recently got a clean chit in the case. In the same year, Chouhan sought the resignation of Shah for his obscene remark.
The then ministers Babulal Gaur and Sartaj Singh resigned from the cabinet in 2016 on the grounds that they had crossed 75 years. The duo resigned, expressing anger.
During the tenure of Chouhan as chief minister, Imarti Devi, Girraj Dandotiya and Aidal Singh Kansana had to resign after they lost elections.
Only one minister, who resigned from the Mohan Yadav-led cabinet, was Ramniwas Rawat. He had quit for losing an election.
Demand for resignation is hanging like a sword over Shah’s head. The opposition has been demanding his resignation for an obscene remark against Colonel Sofia Qureshi. He is trying to get rid of it.
