Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The city crime branch on Sunday arrested three individuals and recovered 10 stolen mobile phones from their possession. The accused had allegedly been stealing mobile phones from the dickeys of scooters parked outside examination centres of schools and colleges.
According to DCP (Crime) Rajesh Kumar Tripathi, the investigation began after a BBA student lodged a complaint on May 7, stating that his phone had been stolen from his scooter’s dickey while he was inside his examination centre. A case was registered under Section 303(2) of the BNS, and a team was formed to track down the culprits.
Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch detained three suspects: Prakash Namdev of Neelkanth Colony, Rahul Nayak of Dewas and Shiv Bhoi of Juna Risala area in the city. During interrogation, the trio allegedly confessed to the thefts. The police recovered 10 mobile phones from them, including the one belonging to the complainant.
The accused told police that they specifically targeted scooters parked outside exam centres, knowing students would be inside for hours, making it easier to open the dickeys unnoticed.
Police are now interrogating the suspects further to uncover their involvement in other similar cases and to identify any accomplices.
