Mumbai: Mumbai’s water reserves received a boost on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, as steady rainfall over the past few days pushed the overall stock in the city’s lakes to 41.17% of their total capacity. According to the latest data released by the Hydraulic Engineer’s Department at BMC’s Bhandup Complex, the collective stock now stands at 5,95,876 million litres out of the total required 14.47 lakh million litres.

Details On Lake Levels
Among the individual lakes, Bhatsa, which contributes a major share to Mumbai’s water supply, recorded the highest live storage at 2,49,771 million litres, with a 30 mm rainfall and a 0.30 meter rise in water level in the last 24 hours. Middle Vaitarna also recorded a sharp increase, with 0.63 meter rise and a useful content of 86,545 ML, bolstered by 43 mm rainfall.

Tansa, meanwhile, showed a 0.06 meter rise and now holds 62,615 ML.
Other reservoirs like Tulsi and Vihar are also performing steadily, recording 3,220 ML and 11,718 ML in live storage respectively. Tulsi received 10 mm rainfall, while Vihar recorded 12 mm.
The combined useful live storage of the seven key lakes supplying water to Mumbai now totals 5.95 lakh million litres, marking a reassuring sign for the city’s water security amid the ongoing monsoon season.

With the monsoon continuing its steady progress and major catchment areas receiving significant rainfall, BMC officials remain optimistic that the city will accumulate enough water stock to avoid supply cuts during the coming months.
