Dharavi bank robbery: Thief hiding in a Nagpur slum, arrested after a month and a half with the help of 22 sex workers

A cooperative bank in Dharashiv was robbed. All the jewelry in the locker was stolen. 2.1 crore rupees in cash was stolen. The gold and silver stolen belonged to farmers. They had taken loans for essential needs by mortgaging these small pieces of jewelry, but the locker theft has caused widespread distress.

Nagpur : The Crime Branch of the Dharashiv Police in Maharashtra has uncovered a theft at the Tuljapur branch of the Lokmangal Multistate Cooperative Society. The theft occurred on August 3rd. Police have arrested the cooperative society's peon in connection with the ₹2.1 crore theft. After wandering around for some time, the accused settled in a slum area of Nagpur city. Significantly, police apprehended the accused with the help of 22 sex workers.

Police said the accused is 28-year-old Datta Kamble. Dharashiv Superintendent of Police Ritu Khokar stated that the accused allegedly stole approximately ₹34.6 lakh in cash and 2.7 kg of gold jewelry pledged with the society on August 3rd and fled.

Police teams formed

The next day, a case was registered at the Tuljapur police station under sections 331(3), 331(4), and 305 of the IPC. Given the seriousness of the theft, senior police officers assigned the task to the local Crime Branch (LCB). Subsequently, teams from the local police station, the LCB, and the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) were deployed.
