Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Visit to Bhutan: Inaugurating 1,020 MW Hydro Project and Strengthening Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a state visit to Bhutan on November 11-12 to further solidify the longstanding friendship and partnership between the two countries. During this visit, he will meet Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and together they will inaugurate the 1,020-megawatt Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project. This major power initiative, jointly developed by India and Bhutan, will boost Bhutan’s energy capacity and deepen bilateral economic cooperation.

PM Modi will also take part in the 70th birthday celebrations of Bhutan’s fourth King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, who is widely acknowledged as a key figure in modernizing Bhutan. Additionally, Modi will meet Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay to discuss trade, development, security, and regional issues critical to both nations.

A key highlight of the visit includes Modi’s participation in the Global Peace Prayer Festival, organized by Bhutan, promoting peace and goodwill internationally. He will also visit the Tashichhodzong in Thimphu to pay respects to the sacred Piprahwa relics of Lord Buddha, which are currently displayed in Bhutan.

The visit represents a significant step in reinforcing the mutual trust, respect, and cooperation that have defined India-Bhutan relations, while exploring new opportunities and addressing global and regional challenges together.
