CNN's regular programming was interrupted for breaking news, as the news programme revealed that a large number of Americans opposed President Donald Trump's latest immigration move. The show's Inside Politics host Manu Raju announced: "In six months, President Trump has succeeded in getting institutions to bend to his will.
"Whether it's Congress, the courts, law firms, universities and media companies, often with threats that force obedience among even some of his sharpest critics. Exploring the American people's true thoughts about "the President's use of his executive power," Manu added: "A brand new CNN poll out for the first time offers a new warning sign for Trump on his bedrock issue." As a poll appeared on screen, the news presenter shared: "Just 42% of Americans now approve of how he's handled immigration, with only 40% approving of his policies on deportation specifically.
"When it comes to deportations, 55% think Trump has gone too far and that's up sharply by 10 points since February."
Another poll breaking down the different aspects of deportation showed that 53% of people opposed Trump's plan to increase the ICE Budget by billions.
59% also opposed his move to end the effort to end birthright citizenship. Another 57% Americans opposed the President's hopes to build new detention centres.
As a staggering 59% of people were against Trump's plan to detain undocumented immigrants with no criminal record.
When questioned if they believed "Trump's immigration policies are making the US safer," 53% of Americans said no.
These figures come after Trump's drastic and controversial approach to fulfil his election pledges to deal with the number of illegal immigrants entering the US.
In the first 100 days of his new administration, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) claimed to have arrested 66,463 migrants and removed 65,682
As for his move to crack down on criminals, the US leader previously stated: "We have a lot of bad criminals who came into this country. They came in stupidly, and it was an unforced error.
"I think we ought to get them the hell out of here, too, if you want to hear the truth."
