Prime Video has just revealed the complete trailer andinitial glimpse photographs of House of the Dragon actress Olivia Cooke and Forrest Gump's Robin Wright in The Girlfriend.

The chilling six-part thriller centres on Laura (portrayed by Robin Wright), who enjoys a thriving career, an adoring husband and a son she cherishes.

Her ideal existence crumbles when son Daniel (Laurie Davidson) presents her to his latest girlfriend, Cherry (Olivia Cooke).

Right from the beginning, Laura senses something isn't right about Cherry - but is it genuinely maternal instinct or merely Laura's reluctance to share her beloved son?

Laura grows certain Cherry is concealing something and cultivates a disturbing fixation that will destroy numerous lives.

The programme, which will broadcast on Prime Video on September 10, also features Waleed Zuaiter as Howard, Tanya Moodie as Isabella, Shalom Brune-Franklin as Brigitte, Karen Henthorn as Tracey, Anna Chancellor as Lilith, Leo Suter as Nicholas, and Francesca Corney as Millie.

The trailer begins with a passionate scene of Cherry and Daniel sharing an intimate moment, before Cherry meets his family.

Laura says: "My son always had girlfriends, but I have never heard him speak about anyone like this."

When Cherry and Laura first encounter each other, there is immediate friction, with Laura declaring "jury's out" on whether she approves.

The synopsis adds: "Is she a manipulative social climber, or is Laura just paranoid? The truth is a matter of perspective."

Cherry's mother cautions her about the perils of falling for someone wealthy, stating: "I'd be careful if I were you."

However, it seems Cherry might be the actual danger as she continues: "He doesn't even know who you are."

As Cherry flaunts Daniel in front of Laura, emphasising that Daniel's allegiances have shifted, Laura proclaims her distrust for Daniel's enigmatic new girlfriend.

Audiences will need to watch the eagerly awaited series to discover Cherry's true identity.

The Girlfriend airs on Prime Video on September 10
