Only four players from Manchester United are considered 'untouchable' in the upcoming summer transfer window as the Red Devils prepare for a hectic off-season following a disappointing season under Ruben Amorim. The Red Devils' recent 4-3 loss to Brentford has left them languishing in an abysmal 15th place in the Premier League table and Amorim is planning a significant overhaul of the squad to suit his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.
However, the club's shaky financial situation necessitates player sales before any substantial investment can be made. Several players, including Antony and Marcus Rashford, are already lined up for permanent Old Trafford departures while others are on the brink of being shown the door by Amorim and the United hierarchy in an effort to reduce the escalating wage bill.
According to the , United's management are prepared to be even more ruthless than initially anticipated. With the need to sell players, it has been revealed that only four members of the current squad are guaranteed to stay.
The club is reportedly 'desperate' to comply with financial spending regulations while also providing Amorim with the necessary funds to bring in fresh talent.
Consequently, only captain Bruno Fernandes, seasoned defender Harry Maguire, young forward Amad and recent recruit Patrick Dorgu are safe from the potential clear-out. Regardless of the price offered, this quartet will not be leaving.
However, if the offer is right, Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Manuel Ugarte, Casemiro, Rasmus Hojlund, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee and Christian Eriksen could all be on the move in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Alejandro Garnacho is another player who could be sold, with United willing to let him go if their £65m valuation is met. Chelsea are among the clubs interested in the Argentine attacker, but he would need assurances from Blues manager Enzo Maresca that he would play a key role in his plans.
For now, Amorim's attention is on winning the Europa League and securing a Champions League spot. He fielded United's youngest-ever Premier League team in the loss to Brentford and hinted that academy players could have a significant role next season.
"It's really important. They have to understand in this season, this season is really important, and also to understand that we cannot do this anymore. Of course, we know the context, but this kind of season, we need to change that," he said.
"They need to understand what it is to play for Manchester United. I think they did really well. They are not playing so much, but then they have to play 90 minutes because we have to change some other players to save them for Thursday.
"And I think we can help even more the young kids, especially Tyler [Fredricson]. He did quite well but for the third goal he needs more help from Amad. So, with these small things I think we can help them more, but I'm really happy with the performance of the young kids.
"Yeah, it's really important because you can train a lot with the first team, but to have that feeling, playing with the players, feeling the players, the speed of the game, I think is the best thing."
