United have endured a torrid season under , finishing 16th in the Premier League and failing to win a single trophy. However, the Red Devils manager tried to put a positive spin on the situation in his pre-match press conference.
"For us, it's amazing to see, even in a difficult season, how many fans this club has," said Amorim. "It's our duty to be here, it's a pleasure. They're outside and following this club for so many years.
"For us, it's really important to have that connection. It's what makes this club one of the best in the world, so we're pleased to be here."
Amorim was also quizzed on United's plans for the upcoming Premier League campaign but kept his cards close to his chest. They will not be involved in any European competitions in the 2025/26 season for only the second time since 1990.
"The target next season I will not tell you now," replied Amorim. "The important thing is to win the first game, then we'll see. We have a lot to do this summer and we have to prepare the team.
"People will expect us to be on the top, but I don't want to think about a big target. I have to say that for us not to be in the Champions League could be an advantage.
"[It could help] to perform well and prepare better the games, to build that core we need for the future, so I think it's good for us to take advantage of not having European games."
