Bhopal: A 30-year-old man smashed the head of a 14-year-old girl and then committed suicide by hanging in Rewa district on Sunday. The incident took place at Bela village under Mangawan police station of the district at around 7.30 am.
The deceased, who was found hanging from a tree a couple of hours later, was identified as Chhotelal Kol, who worked as a labourer. The accused came to the grocery store run by the family of the deceased minor. The minor, a class 9 student, was alone at the shop at that time.
They had a dispute over some issue, and the accused smashed her head with a ‘silbatta' (grinding stone). Before anyone could understand anything, he escaped. A few hours later, he was found hanging from a tree.
"We got information that a 14-year-old girl was killed at around 8.30 am. Our teams immediately reached the spot, and within an hour, we got information that the suspect had also committed suicide," Sub-Divisional Officer of Police, Mangawan, Umesh Prajapati, told TOI.
He said, "Both the deceased girl and the accused lived in the neighbourhood. The accused is married and has kids. He worked as a labourer. Even a day before, i.e., on Saturday, he worked at the house of the deceased minor and even had his dinner there the night before."
"The family of the deceased minor ran a grocery store. Probably, the accused had some argument with the girl, and in a fit of rage, he executed the crime in the morning and then committed suicide. This is just primary suspicion; a detailed investigation is being carried out," Prajapati added.
