AHMEDABAD: In Shahpur, a domestic tiff over a single bottle of chilled water left a man injured and hospitalised on Sunday night. This incident highlights the rising tension caused by extreme temperatures, currently hovering between 42 and 44 degrees celsius.

According to Madhavpura police , the incident took place late on Sunday evening when the complainant, a daily-wage labourer, went to his residence near Shahpur Fire Brigade to collect a bottle of cold water from the refrigerator. The man said he went to home after dinner, seeking water to quench his thirst.

When he told his wife to bring the bottle of chilled water, the wife refused. "He then attempted to take it himself, but a verbal argument ensued, and it soon escalated into physical violence," said a police official. The wife allegedly abused him, slapped him, kicked him to the ground, and then struck him on the head with a wooden stick.

Bleeding profusely, the man was assisted by his mother, brother, and neighbours. He was rushed to Civil Hospital, Shahibaug, in a 108 ambulance, where he received four stitches to his head.

Following treatment, the man approached Madhavpura police to lodge a formal complaint. Based on his statement, Madhavpura police registered an FIR of causing grievous hurt under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Cops said that the fight was triggered by the shortage of cold water during the intense summer heat, and the bottle in question was the only one available in the refrigerator at the time. Police said that they will take statements of other family members to ascertain the exact issue behind the brawl.
