Ajmer: A 28-year-old woman attempted suicide by jumping into Ana Sagar Lake but was saved by police personnel present there Monday. She told police that she took the drastic step after being raped and blackmailed by a central govt employee who then pressured her family not to give any statement in court.
Police said, the woman, who teaches at a coaching centre, was kept locked in her room by her family due to pressure from the accused. She said she managed to escape Monday and tried to commit suicide. She was admitted to JLN Hospital after being rescued from the lake.
The woman told police that she had met the central govt employee, Devendra, in Dec last year and that he blackmailed and physically abused her after taking her video and photos.
She said that after she lodged an FIR for rape against him at Alwar Gate police station, he pressured her family and frightened them against taking any action. "I went to the police station several times to record my statement but did not get justice. So, after I escaped from my house, I came to Anasagar Lake and jumped into it," she was quoted as telling police. A senior police official said the matter concerning her is being investigated. TNN
