Amavasya is one of the most important day in Hindu religion. This day is also known as New Moon day when Krishna Paksha ends and Shukla Paksha begins.This is the most special day, when devotees can offer prayers to their ancestors and forefathers. Since this day is solely devoted to ancestors, when people do Pitru Tarpan, Pind Daan, and Pitru Puja, it is not seen as an auspicious day to carry out any auspicious actions like marriages, engagements, purchasing a new home, purchasing a new car, or other significant tasks. Many devotees visit the holy places, where they can take a bath in Ganga river as it is considered meritorious. Holy locations like Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Prayagraj are considered the most prominent places. Since it is believed that Tridev resides in peepal trees, worshiping tree by lighting a diya and giving water is very beneficial.

Vaishakha Amavasya 2025: Right time to perform Pitru Puja

Pitru Puja is always performed during the time of Madhyahna and as we have already mentioned that Amavasya is starting at 04:49 AM on April 27, 2025 and it will end at 1 AM on April 28, 2025 so the perfect time for puja is around 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on April 27 and also people are advised to take holy bath in Ganga river during the time of Brahma Muhurat or just after Sunrise.

1. People take a holy bath after rising early in the morning.
2. Make sattvik food and invite Brahmins at your house.
3. The cow should be fed the first cooked roti or chapati.
4. After performing Pitru Tarpan, feed the Brahmin also.
5. Provide him with clothing, dakshina and the male family member need to touch his feet and ask for blessings.
6. This is also regarded as an excellent day to do yajna or hawan.
7. This day is considered a powerful day to remove Pitru Dosha by organising arrange Pitru Gayatri.
8. Another important aspect of the ceremony is feeding ants, dogs, and crows.
