NEW DELHI: An accused involved in the murder of industrialist Gopal Khemka was reportedly killed in an encounter by Bihar Police late Monday night.
The accused, Vikas alias Raja , was allegedly involved in the manufacturing and sale of illegal weapons. According to officials, he also accompanied the shooter, Umesh, at the time of Gopal Khemka’s murder.
According to the police circular, one pistol, live cartridges, and spent shells were recovered from the spot.
The body has been sent to a government hospital in Patna for postmortem.
"As per verified information received from the district control room, the Station House Officer of Malsalami Police Station reported that around 2:45 am on the night of July 7/8, 2025, a police encounter took place near Pir Damariya Ghat, approximately 2 km west of the police station," Bihar Police Headquarters said in a statement.
"During the encounter, a notorious criminal, Vikas alias Raja (29 years), son of Pradeep Mahto, resident of Daudchak Nagla, Malsalami Police Station, Patna district, was killed," it added.
JD(U) leader Rajeev Ranjan said the accused was killed after he tried to attack the police.
"As per the information we have received, police have killed an accused in the Khemka murder case who tried to attack police. Nitish Kumar ji is monitoring every incident," JD(U) leader Rajeev Ranjan said.
This comes a day after police arrested two persons involved in the murder of the Patna-based industrialist, including the man who had pulled the trigger.
"Both persons have been held in Patna by a joint team of the Special Task Force and Patna Police. The investigation is in progress. We will be able to divulge more details in due course," said the officer.
Gopal Khemka was shot dead outside his residence in Patna by a bike-borne assailant at 11:40 pm on Friday, seven years after miscreants had gunned down his son in Hajipur. The incident had taken place near the gate of Khemka's house in the Gandhi Maidan locality.
Following the incident, chief minister Nitish Kumar held a meeting to review the law and order situation in the state on Saturday, during which he instructed officials to complete the investigation at the earliest, officials said.
