President Donald Trump reiterated his shock at Socialist Zohran Mamdani winning the Democratic primary for the NYC mayoral election, as he had earlier, but this time it came with a threat of not giving any money to NYC. "I can tell you this — whoever is mayor of New York is going to have to behave themselves or the federal government is coming down very tough on them financially," Trump said.
Speaking on Fox Sunday morning, Trump said Mamdani is a communist and he openly admits it. "He's a communist and I think it's very bad for New York. I don't know if he's going to get in but he's a pure communist and I think he admits it," he said.
"I can't imagine it, but let's say this: If he does get it, I am going to be president, and he's going to have to do the right thing. Or they are not getting any money," Trump said.
"I used to say that we would never have a Socialist in this country but we have a communist. I was very surprised. I never heard of him. I don't know who he is," Trump said adding that Mamdani is a left, liberal, lunatic.
After Mamdani's apparent victory, after Andrew Cuomo conceded the election, Trump made his first comment about Mamdani on his Truth Social, where he said Democrats have crossed the line in choosing Mamdani. "Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor. We've had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous. he looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he's not very smart, he's got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin' Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!" Trump posted.
Mamdani reacted to Trump's criticism and said: “You know, this is not the first time that President Trump is going to comment on myself, and I encourage him — just like I encourage every New Yorker — to learn about my actual policies to make the city affordable."
“If he continues to focus on persecuting political enemies and on trying to detain and disappear New Yorkers, be it on the basis of their documentation or their sexual orientation or their politics, that is someone that I will fight time and again,” Mamdani told ABC.
