The 70-minute display culminated with the release of 80,000 peace doves and colourful balloons -- a spectacle heavy with symbolism and propaganda.
The event drew about two dozen foreign leaders seeking closer ties with Beijing amid escalating tariff tensions with the United States. Among the most closely watched attendees were Putin, Kim, and Iran’s president, along with leaders from Southeast Asia.
In a striking image, Putin and Kim flanked Xi at the start of the ceremony, the first time the trio has been pictured together, in what appeared to be a direct challenge to the US-led world order.

Featuring more than 10,000 troops and hundreds of advanced weapons, the parade underscored China’s growing military power under Xi’s sweeping modernization drive.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump lashed out at Beijing, accusing Xi, Putin, and Kim of conspiring against the United States. In a Truth Social post, he argued that Americans had paid a heavy price to secure China’s freedom during World War II.
“The big question to be answered is whether or not President Xi of China will mention the massive amount of support and ‘blood’ that The United States of America gave to China in order to help it to secure its FREEDOM from a very unfriendly foreign invader. Many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory,” Trump wrote.
“I hope that they are rightfully Honored and Remembered for their Bravery and Sacrifice! May President Xi and the wonderful people of China have a great and lasting day of celebration,” he added.
Turning sharply critical, Trump concluded: “Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America. PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP.”
